Trump and Kim agree to restart talks in historic meeting

Trump Meets North Korea's Kim Jong Un And Says Nuclear Negotiations Will Resume.

Donald Trump has become the first sitting US president to set foot in North Korea, after meeting Kim Jong-un in the area dividing the two Koreas.

PANMUNJOM, South Korea  — President Trump met Kim Jong Un at the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea on Sunday, and briefly crossed into North Korea, marking the first time a sitting U.S. president has ever done so.

After shaking hands with Kim over the line that marks where their two countries and their allies fought each other to a standstill in the 1950-53 Korean War, Trump walked for several steps into North Korean territory, before another handshake.

Moments after becoming the only sitting US president to set foot inside North Korea, Trump brought Kim back over the dividing line for a meeting where they agreed to start working-level talks on Pyongyang's nuclear weapons

With the highly symbolic gesture, Trump became the first sitting US president to set foot on North Korean soil.

The leaders shook hands on the North Korean side of the DMZ, making Trump the first sitting American president to ever set foot in the hermit state, before crossing together to south side and shaking hands again.

Kim said this was “an expression of his willingness” to work toward a new future.
Trump made the surprise announcement hours earlier of his intention to meet Kim at the Joint Security Area patrolled by soldiers from both Koreas near the inter-Korean border.

Trump announced that new teams would be set up by the three parties to the negotiations. Asked by journalists if he believed that North Korea’s previous negotiators were still alive, he replied: “I think so.”

What happened at the DMZ?

In a meeting apparently arranged after Mr Trump invited Mr Kim on Twitter on Saturday, they shook hands across the demarcation line between the Koreas before Mr Trump briefly crossed into North Korea, a symbolic milestone.

"Good to see you again. I never expected to meet you at this place," a smiley Mr Kim told Mr Trump through an interpreter in an encounter broadcast live on international television.

"Big moment," Mr Trump said, "tremendous progress."

Looking relaxed, Mr Kim crossed into South Korea and alongside Mr Trump said: "I believe this is an expression of his willingness to eliminate all the unfortunate past and open a new future."

The encounter had initially been described as a brief greeting but Mr Trump and Mr Kim ended up talking for almost an hour in a building known as the Freedom House, on the South Korean side.

For a brief moment, Mr Trump and Mr Kim were joined by South Korea's President Moon Jae-in, an unprecedented three-way gathering.

Speaking next to Mr Trump in a rare statement to the press, Mr Kim said their meeting was a symbol of their "excellent" relationship.

Calling their friendship "particularly great", Mr Trump - who once referred to Mr Kim as "little rocket man" - said it was a "great day for the world" and that he was "proud to step over the line" between the Koreas.

Numerous US presidents have visited the armistice line that has divided the peninsula since hostilities in the Korea War ended in 1953, largely to show support for the South.

But Mr Trump changed the optics of the visit, eschewing the binoculars and a bomber jacket worn by President Barack Obama for a business suit.

Former US presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton have both been to North Korea - flying into the capital, Pyongyang - but only after they left office.

She's going to Leave Bollywood (Zaira Wasim) The Dangal Actor..

'Dangal’ girl Zaira Wasim quits films

  • ‘Dangal’ girl Zaira Wasim quits Bollywood, says her religion threatened

The 18-year-old Kashmiri says her relationship with her religion has been threatened

In a detailed post on her Facebook page, the Kashmiri-born Dangal star Zaira Wasim said she realised "though I may fit here perfectly, I do not belong here".

"Five years ago I made a decision that changed my life forever. As I stepped my foot in Bollywood, it opened doors of massive popularity for me.

"However, that's never something that I set out to do or become, especially with regards to my ideas of success and failure, which I had just started to explore and understand," Wasim said in the lengthy post.

Kashmiri National Award-winning actress Zaira Wasim, who played wrestler Geeta Phogat in Aamir Khan starrer 'Dangal', on Sunday announced her “disassociation” from the field of acting, saying it interfered with her faith and religion.

In a detailed post on her Facebook page, which she later shared across all social media platforms, the Kashmiri-born star said she realised "though I may fit here perfectly, I do not belong here". She talked about how the decision that she made 5 years ago changed her life.

The 18-year-old actor said as she completed five years in the profession, she wanted to "confess that I am not truly happy with this identity i.e my line of work". "For a very long time now it has felt like I have struggled to become someone else. As I had just started to explore and make sense of the things to which I dedicated my time, efforts and emotions and tried to grab hold of a new lifestyle, it was only for me to realise that though I may fit here perfectly, I do not belong here."

"This field indeed brought a lot of love, support, and applause my way, but what it also did was to lead me to a path of ignorance, as I silently and unconsciously transitioned out of imaan (faith). While I continued to work in an environment that consistently interfered with my imaan, my relationship with my religion was threatened," she said.

Zaira Wasim said as she continued to "ignorantly pass through" while trying to convince herself that what she was doing was okay and was not really affecting her, "I lost all the 'Barakah'' (blessing) from my life".

"I was constantly battling with my soul to reconcile my thoughts and instincts to fix a static picture of my imaan and I failed miserably, not just once but a hundred times...

"I kept procrastinating by tricking and deluding my conscience into the idea that I know what I am doing doesn't feel right but assumed that I will put an end to this whenever the time feels right and I continued to put myself in a vulnerable position where it was always so easy to succumb to the environment that damaged my peace, imaan and my relationship with Allah (God)," she said.

Talking about her life as an actor, she said she continued to observe things and twist her perceptions as she wanted them to be, without really understanding that the key was to see them as they were. "In the great and divine wisdom of the Quran, I found sufficiency and peace. Indeed the hearts find peace when it acquires the knowledge of Its Creator, His Attributes, His Mercy and His commandments," she added.

Zaira Wasim said she began to heavily rely upon Allah's mercy for help and guidance instead of valuing her own believability. "I discovered my lack of knowledge of the basic fundamentals of my religion and how my inability to reinforce a change earlier was a result of confusing my heart's contentment and wellbeing with strengthening and satisfying my own (shallow and worldly) desires," she said.

The actor, who made her big Bollywood debut opposite superstar Aamir Khan in 2016, said she questioned the deepest sources of her ideas of success, meaning and the purpose of her life.

"The source code that governed and impacted my perceptions evolved into a different dimension. Success isn't correlated with our biased, delusional and conventional shallow measures of life. Success is the accomplishment of the purpose of our creation. We have forgotten the purpose we were created for as we ignorantly continue to pass through our lives; deceiving our conscience," she said.

Zaira said the journey has been "exhausting, to battle my soul for so long" and life was too short yet too long to be at war with oneself. About announcing the decision on social media, the actor said she was openly doing so not to paint a holier picture of herself, but "this is the least I can do to start afresh."

"This is just my first step as I have arrived at the clarity of realisation of the path I wish to be on and strive for and during this time I may have consciously or unconsciously planted a seed of temptation in the hearts of many, but my sincere advice to everyone is that no amount of success, fame, authority or wealth is worth trading or losing your peace or the light of your 'imaan' for," she said.

Nike Unveils Team India’s New Orange Jersey to be Worn Against England During ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 Match in Edgbaston

The long wait and suspense is finally over as leading global sports brand – Nike has officially unveiled Team India’s special away kit for the much-awaited clash against England in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup on Sunday. Nike India, the official apparel sponsor of BCCI, released official images of the jersey through a press release.

Virat Kohli and Co. will be sporting the jersey with an orange-splashing on the shoulder region and on the back. The players will be donning the new outfit for their big-ticket World Cup 2019 game versus England. Several rumours have been doing the rounds since it was announced that World Cup teams would wear away jerseys in a few matches in the quadrennial extravaganza in England.

SEE PICS of TEAM INDIA’s NEW AWAY OUTFIT:

Since both England and India don blue colour jerseys, India, according to International Cricket Council regulations, are going to wear their away kit. For India’s penultimate league game on Sunday, the team will make a departure from their normal contemporary blue kit so that it won’t clash with England’s sky blue colour.

“The ODI and Away Kit designs launched this year are inspired by the young new generation of India and the fearless spirit of the national teams,” a press release said.

“Similar to the recently launched ODI Kit, the away kit is designed to enhance dynamic movements and modern requirement of the sport and the athletes. While the new engineered mesh and strategically placed sweat zones help enhanced breathability for the team on the field, new placket construction, the flex crest, garment cut angles and slash taping all add to making the new jersey lighter, more breathable and helps the athletes be agile on the field,” Nike India added in a press release.
Before the commencement of the World Cup, the ICC introduced a new rule asking the teams to sport home and away jerseys in the tournament.ICC rule reads, "For televised ICC events all participating teams will be required to provide for two different coloured kits, except for the host country who has preference in the choice of colour and may, if it chooses to do so, provide only one coloured kit to be worn in all matches throughout the event. In advance of the event, the teams will be notified which coloured kit will be worn in each match."
India, who are the only unbeaten team in the ongoing premier tournament so far, will compete against the hosts at Edgbaston on June 30.

India Set to Buy More Harop Suicide Drones

INDIA TO BUY 15 HAROP SUICIDE DRONES FROM ISRAEL

The HAROP is a standoff loitering attack weapon system designed to locate and precisely attack targets.

The HAROP loitering missile (LM) type platform which serves as an Electro-Optically guided attack weapon. HAROP LMs are launched from ground-based launchers and controlled via a two-way data link for full man-in-the-loop operation.

Harop is a loitering munition (LM) system developed in Israel by the MBT missiles division of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). The unmanned combat aerial vehicle is also known as the Harpy-2 loitering munitions missile. The drone loiters over the battlefield and attacks the targets by self-destructing into them.

The Harop unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) has been developed from the Harpy unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), also developed by the IAI. This combat drone was unveiled in India at the Aero-India show in February 2009.

Israel’s Prime Minister and his National Security Advisor are working to promote additional arms deals with India, as France attempts to push the Israeli manufacturers aside with a package deal that includes aircraft, ATGMs and artillery guns

The Indian Air Force is planning to acquire 15 more Harop suicide from IAI, local media reported earlier this week.

"A proposal to acquire these attack drones is expected to be discussed by the Defense Ministry at a high-level meeting in the coming week to strengthen the fleet of such drones in the Air Force," ANI cited defense sources as saying.

According to the report, India has already purchased more than 100 of these UAVs over the years.

Moreover, the two countries are reportedly also discussing “Project Cheetah” that includes the upgrading of nearly all Indian UAVs, which would be turned into high-quality attack drones with enhanced surveillance capabilities.

Meanwhile, the times of India reports that New Delhi is close to approving a deal for two more Phalcon Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft with ELTA radars. The deal is estimated at over $800 million.

India already has a number of the Harop drones developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), having purchased 10 of them in September 2009 in a deal worth some $100 million.

Harop loitering munition orders and deliveries

In September 2009, the Indian Air Force (IAF) purchased ten Harops from IAI under a $100m contract.

During the same month, Germany purchased an undisclosed number of the Harop loitering munition systems from IAI. The German variant will be developed in cooperation with Rheinmetall Defence for the German Armed Forces. The German Ministry of Defence (MoD) had earlier funded the development of Harop according to their specific requirements. The UCAV has also been ordered by the Israeli armed forces.

Turkey is reported to be the launch customer of the expendable UCAV in 2005 with a $100m contract. White Hawk, the UK version of Harop, was a finalist in the UK’s loitering munition capability demonstration (LMCD) programme in October 2005.

IAI completed a series of flight demonstrations and operational tests of the Harop loitering munition for its customers in the first half of 2015. The demonstrations involved evaluation of Harop’s performance capabilities including observation, target destruction, flight altitude, manoeuvring and loitering.

    Performance

The Harop navigates and loiters in the combat area after it is launched from a vehicle-mounted container.

When the signals are exposed, it strikes the spot target immediately before its activation. The LM can operate in two guidance modes.

The Harop anti-radar homing system allows it to attack the radio-emitting and moving targets. A non-emitting target such as shutdown radars and suspected ballistic missile sites are detected by the electro-optical sensor of the RF seeker. It allows the operator to attack these targets, which are not detected by the automated homing system.

    Mission

The Harop attacks the enemy targets with an onboard explosive of 23kg (51lb). It can automatically search, detect and accurately attack the mobile or static targets at long range. It detects the strong pulses transmitting from communication targets such as missile radars and collides with the source.

It can be deployed in urban warfare, high-intensity and low-intensity conflicts and counter-terror missions. The targets include high-velocity mobile enemy missiles, and moving and time-critical targets at sea or land such as radars and hideouts.
The forces are also working on developing indigenous combat drones which would be deployed on both the China and Pakistan border once the project is complete.

The ‘slowing down’ of Wimbledon is as much myth as reality, and marks a significant step in the evolution of grasscourt tennis

The ‘slowing down’ of Wimbledon is as much myth as reality, and marks a significant step in the evolution of grasscourt tennis

Ace down the T. Service winner. Ace out wide. Serve and volley winner. Ace out wide again. Serve and forehand winner. Ace down the T.

That’s pretty much how most millennials would remember Wimbledon matches from the 90s. With enhanced string technology and improved fitness levels, first-strike tennis on grass was fine-tuned to such an extent in that decade that it reached near-perfect levels. And as spectators discovered in those blurry days of short points and quick matches, perfection is boring.

You didn’t know whether to applaud the umpteenth point won with a thunderous ace or dismiss it as the work of a hulking robot. Big servers like Goran Ivanisevic, Richard Krajicek and of course Pete Sampras tasted tremendous success on the slick lawns of Wimbledon, and baseline rallies seemed like a thing of the past. There was no escaping the rote, almost mind-numbing pattern of grasscourt points; the most you would get by way of variety was an unreturnable serve out wide instead of down the T.

By the end of the decade, the fans weren’t the only ones complaining. Players like Gustavo Kuerten (then the World No. 1) and Anna Kournikova added to the chorus of voices expressing discontent with the slam-bang style of tennis that had become so common at Wimbledon. The grass of Wimbledon seemed to be playing quicker than ever, and there was ostensibly no place for baseliners at the All-England Club anymore.

The players’ complaints weren’t just about the speed of the ball; they also had an issue with the unpredictability of the surface. The bounce on grass is inherently lower than on other surfaces, but at Wimbledon, it was also treacherously uneven. It was almost impossible to anticipate when you’d get a ball that stayed low or even flat-lined.

Since you didn’t know how the ball was going to bounce, your best bet was to not let it bounce at all. Rushing the net and taking the ball on the full was actually less risky than staying back at the baseline and trading groundstrokes. Serve-and-volleyers had Wimbledon in a vice-like grip all the way up to the end of the 90s, and there seemed to be no end in sight to their dominance.

This stuck out like a sore thumb in the face of the game’s changing styles and attitudes. Power baseline tennis was slowly becoming the norm on clay and hardcourt, but grass remained stubbornly immune to the evolution of the sport. Naturally, the purveyors of modern tennis started feeling alienated from grass, and Wimbledon in particular. The most prestigious tournament in the world was in danger of being reduced to a relic of the indulgent.

The organisers didn’t turn a deaf ear to the voices of dissent. In the autumn of 2000, they decided to change the composition of the grass, in order to make it more durable and presentable. They switched from a mix of 70 percent ryegrass and 30 percent creeping red fescue to 100 percent ryegrass, while going to great lengths to assert that the change would not affect the ‘perceived speed of the court’.

But it did affect the speed of the court, albeit not immediately. The first year with the new grass didn’t see a noticeable change (presumably because of the rainy conditions that fortnight), and the two finalists in 2001 were Goran Ivanisevic and Pat Rafter – who were both known for being effective serve-and-volleyers.

You’ll also remember 2001 as the year when Roger Federer defeated Pete Sampras in their iconic fourth-round clash, which is widely regarded as one of the most resonant changing of the guard moments in the history of the sport. Did the new grass somehow blunt the efficiency of the erstwhile King of Grass, throwing him off his game long enough to make him lose his first match at Wimbledon in five years? It’s tough to say because Sampras was already showing signs of decline by then, and also because Federer went on to become, well, Federer; it is entirely possible that the Swiss was simply too good for an aging champion, 100 percent ryegrass or not.

It was in the 2002 tournament that the effects of the change in the grass composition became really pronounced. The final that year was contested by Lleyton Hewitt and David Nalbandian, two dyed-in-the-wool baseliners who refused to go anywhere near the net for a vast majority of their match. Tim Henman, a player fully committed to the serve-and-volley style, famously remarked about that edition, “I remember sitting at a changeover in 2002 in utter frustration and thinking ‘What on earth is going on here? I’m on a grass court and it’s the slowest court I’ve played on this year’.”

After the shock of that 2002 final being won by a counterpuncher like Hewitt, Federer restored some sanity by winning the next five editions. But there was an unmistakable change even in the Federer template for success. During his 2001 win over Sampras, he had shown an obsessive inclination to attack the net, finishing several important points in the forecourt. But his title runs from 2003 to 2007 were largely accomplished from the baseline, with net approaches being more of a surprise tactic than a primary game-plan.

Then in 2008 Rafael Nadal dethroned Federer in that transcendent final, and all illusions of serve-and-volleyers being a dominant force at Wimbledon were shattered. It wasn’t just that a claycourt expert had triumphed at Wimbledon; Bjorn Borg had shown it was possible all the way back in 1976. But it was the manner of Nadal’s win that truly shook the foundations of everything we believed to be true about grasscourt tennis.

The Spaniard hadn’t changed his game too much while playing at Wimbledon, the way Borg had. While the Swede got out of his comfort zone and attacked the net regularly in order to succeed on the grass, Nadal stuck to his tried and tested topspin-heavy game to defeat all of his opponents – just the way he had a month earlier at Roland Garros.

How was this possible? How could topspin, defense and baseline consistency be so successful on the fast-paced grass, where the bounce was supposed to be low and skiddy? The Wimbledon organisers have always denied that the new ryegrass variant ever affected the bounce of the court; they have repeatedly insisted that bounce is “largely determined by the soil, not the grass”.

But then they had also claimed that the new grass wouldn’t affect the speed of the court, and yet we have seen not just Nadal, but also Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray (both counterpunching baseliners) win multiple trophies at Wimbledon in the last decade. So have the Wimbledon organisers been deliberately trying to understate the impact of the new grass, or is the ‘change’ in the behavior of the courts purely imaginary on our part?

The truth lies somewhere in the middle of those two extremes. While the new grass composition doesn’t materially alter speed or bounce in controlled conditions, it does have an effect on both of those things in a tournament that lasts two whole weeks.
