what is Insurance?

Insurance is a means of protection from financial loss. It is a form of risk management, primarily used to hedge against the risk of a contingent or uncertain loss.

An entity which provides insurance is known as an insurer, insurance company, insurance carrier or underwriter.

A person or entity who buys insurance is known as an insured or as a policyholder.

The insurance transaction involves the insured assuming a guaranteed and known relatively small loss in the form of payment to the insurer in exchange for the insurer's promise to compensate the insured in the event of a covered loss.

The loss may or may not be financial, but it must be reducible to financial terms, and usually involves something in which the insured has an insurable interest established by ownership, possession, or pre-existing relationship.

Jeep Compass Trailhawk to launch in India soon; Features, engine, price

The off-road SUV will also get a panoramic sunroof, a touchscreen infotainment system with an 8.4-inch display and leather-wrapped steering wheel

Jeep India's Compass Trailhawk is scheduled for launch in India on July 2019. The Trailhawk's launch will be an additional variant to the Compass' diesel automatic range, which was launched in July 2017. While the Jeep India hasn't officially started accepting Trailhawk bookings in the country, some dealerships are already open for orders for the off-road Jeep SUV.

Jeep Compass Trailhawk will be available with multiple features like Active Drive Low 4x4 system, hill descent control, a rear locking differential, and an additional Selec-Terrain system. The SUV will also get a major visual overhaul with changes like new decals, red tow hooks, larger alloy wheels, black accents on the grille and 'Trail-Rated' badging.

Jeep Compass Trailhawk SUV has been launched in India at ₹26.8 lakh (ex-showroom, India). At this price, the Compass Trailhawk commands a premium of ₹3.69 lakh over the Compass Limited Plus 4X4 i.e. the top-end trim of the standard Jeep Compass. Jeep had started accepting bookings for the Trailhawk two weeks ago and the SUV's deliveries are expected to commence in the first week of July.

Jeep Compass Trailhawk, the off-road oriented variant of the Compass compact SUV, was showcased in India earlier this month. As compared to the standard Jeep Compass, the Trailhawk gets a variety of additions -- to the exterior and interior of the vehicle as well as its mechanical bits.

For starters, the Jeep Compass Trailhawk SUV gets a 'Trail Rated' badge on the fenders, decals on the bonnet, black front grille, and redesigned front and rear bumpers which improve the approach and departure angles, respectively. Apart from this, the Compass Trailhawk gets 30 mm higher ground clearance than its sibling to take over uncharted terrains.

Further complementing its off-roading character is the company's Active Drive Low 4X4 system with rear axle disconnect in combination with Jeep Selec-Terrain system that allows the driver to choose from five driving modes-- Auto,Snow, Sand, Mud, and Rock. Besides this, the compact off-roader comes with hill hold control and hill descent control, and gets frequency damped suspension setup.

The list of Jeep Compass Trailhawk's features include an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Jeep's Uconnect interface for Bluetooth connectivity and voice commands. Other features on the Compass Trailhawk include panoramic sunroof, cruise control, automatic rain sensing wipers, dual zone climate control and engine start/stop button.

The Jeep Compass Trailhawk is propelled by a BSVI-compliant 2.0-litre diesel engine that puts out 170.63 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. This diesel engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic gearbox, making it the first offering in Compass' line-up to get automatic transmission in combination with a diesel engine. Jeep India ahs also noted that the Jeep Compass Trailhawk is 6 per cent more fuel-efficient than the regular Compass.

2020 BMW 1 Series enters a new era with front-wheel drive

2020 BMW 1 Series enters a new era with front-wheel drive

BMW's entry-level 1 Series, originally unveiled 15 years ago at the 2004 Paris Motor Show, has now undergone a paradigm shift as it enters its third generation. From now on, the 1 Series cars will feature a transversely mounted engine and front-wheel-drive.

The shock of BMW going FWD has been softened by earlier UKL2 platform cars taking after BMW's MINI offerings in recent years, and the X1, X2 and the 2-series MPVs have already shared the MINI DNA for quite some time. Still, this latest 1 Series introduction can be considered a watershed moment as the vehicle takes a step towards the modern school of hatchback design while the new 2 Series coupes align more with the M3 and M4.

BMW mentions packaging benefits as one reason behind the front-wheel-drive layout, with its family hatch doing the re-orientation most competing hatchback offerings did in the early 1980s.

The new car is only available in five-door configuration. It's a touch shorter than the outgoing model, and the wheelbase has also shrunk. Still, the rear passengers now reap the benefits of the FWD structure and get an additional 1.3 inches of leg room as a result. But FWD isn't the only drivetrain option for the new 1 Series: there's also BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive for some models.

Along with three diesel powerplants ranging from 114 to 188 horsepower, the new 1 Series is offered with two gasoline engines. The more humble of those, the 118i, has a three-cylinder 1.5-liter turbo that provides 140 hp and 162 lb-ft, and takes 8.5 seconds to hit 62 mph. Then there's the 302-horsepower M135i xDrive, which is able to do the same acceleration run in just 4.8 seconds. BMW says the M Performance package is able to shave a tenth of a second off that achievement. Manual gearboxes are only available for the more basic cars, while there are both seven- and eight-speed Steptronics available in the higher end. The M135i xDrive comes standard with the eight-speed Steptronic Sport box.

Speaking of M Performance, BMW is already discussing forthcoming sport packages. There's carbon fiber aero, large sports brakes with four-piston calipers up front, M Performance themed wheels and much more.

U.S. availability for the new 1 Series looks unlikely, but the X2 crossover already offers much of the same, just in a taller package – including the aforementioned 306-horsepower engine. We should see this new 1 Series make its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Renault to stop selling diesel cars from 2020

Renault’s global CEO Thierry Bollore said diesel is naturally decreasing in terms of proportion of sale globally. “Today, there is a clear regulatory approach. We have decided to limit the development of diesel powertrain when Euro VII comes,” he said, further confirming that the company will stop selling diesel cars in India from next year

The company, which unveiled its compact multi-purpose vehicle Triber in India, is bringing the MPV only in petrol engine option as part of the strategy even as it prepares to introduce electric vehicles in the near future.

The company, which unveiled its compact multi-purpose vehicle Triber in India, is bringing the MPV only in petrol engine option as part of the strategy even as it prepares to introduce electric vehicles in the near future.

Maruti Suzuki India has confirmed that all its diesel cars that come with the 1.3-litre DDIS 200 and the newly launched 1.5-litre DDIS 225 engine will be phased out by April 2020.

The company which released the financial results for the 2018-19 financial year today announced that from April 1, 2020, none of its diesel cars will be on sale in India.

The company has stated as the BS-6 norms kick in from April 2020, Maruti will mainly focus on upgrading its petrol engine line-up. In fact, 16 Maruti Suzuki petrol models need to be upgraded to BS6, including the passenger and commercial vehicle segment.

The latest updates emerged at the global unveiling of the Triber compact seven-seat vehicle in the country.

It is believed that Renault will focus on the development of the EVs as part of its mid-term plan for 2022.

A couple of months back, Maruti Suzuki had announced its plans to stop selling diesel cars in the country post 2020. More details in this regard will be known in the days to come.
Collaborative project

The Triber is the outcome of a joint project between the Renault teams in India and France and is the world’s first vehicle specifically designed for the Indian market, the company said.

The sub-4-metre MPV has been conceived, developed and produced in India, for Indian customers first, before it is taken to the world, Bollore said.

On electric vehicles, he said India will not be left behind in Renault’s global plans. The company globally plans to introduce eight new electric cars by 2022.

The Triber, which was unveiled on Wednesday, is aimed at recovering market share Renault lost to rivals over the last couple of years. Renault’s small car Kwid and sport-utility vehicle Duster did manage to make significant inroads in the domestic market but lack of new launches and subdued response to its last product Captur SUV led to a sharp drop in sales.

Bolloré said the company has made mistakes in the past but the fact that India will be the third largest auto market in the near future is a good enough reason for the company to keep investing in the country.

He expects Renault India to double its vehicle sales by 2022.
