PM Modi reaches Osaka for G20 Summit; to hold talks with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe
PM Modi is expected to hold about 10 bilateral meetings as well as Russia-India-China (RIC) and Japan-America-India (JAI) trilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit.
Prime Minister Modi's visit to Japan has a clear agenda of free and fair multilateral trade, energy security, countering terrorism and return of economic fugitives. The Summit is scheduled for 28th and 29th of this month.
rime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday embarked on his journey to Osaka in Japapn to attend the crucial G20 summit. Before leaving for Japan, the prime minister said he would reinforce India's strong support to reformed multilateralism at the G20 summit, vital to preserve rule-based international order.
On the sidelines of the summit, Mr Modi will meet with the leaders of major partner countries. The Prime Minister will hold talks with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe this morning, while he is scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump tomorrow and discuss important issues of bilateral and global importance.
In his departure statement, Mr Modi said he is looking forward to discussing with other global leaders major challenges and opportunities faced by the world.

What is the G20 Summit?
G20, or the Group of Twenty, is an international forum for the governments and central bank governors from 19 countries and the European Union (EU). It was founded in 1999 and has overshadowed the G7 in the last 10 years.
The group comprises Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the EU, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States (US).
According to Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the issues of importance for India at G20 includes energy security, financial stability, disaster resilient infrastructure, reformed multilateralism, WTO reforms, countering terrorism, the return of economic fugitives, food security, the democratisation of technologies and portable social security schemes.
On the sidelines of the G20 Summit, informal meeting of the BRICS leaders and bilateral meetings with other leaders will also take place.
G-20 comprises Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the European Union, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the UK and the US.
The Prime Minister said, the Osaka Summit will be an important stepping stone for India towards hosting the G-20 Summit in 2022, when we usher in a New India in the 75th Anniversary of the Independence.
The theme of the summit is Human-centred future society. Food security, energy security, financial stability, terrorism-related issues, Innovation in the digital economy and artificial intelligence will be discussed. More than 20 countries will be participating in the G20 Summit.
