The income tax department has started issuing new PAN cards online instantly using Aadhaar-based e-KYC

NEW DELHI : To get a new PAN card you need not fill up a 2-page application form and wait for a few days anymore as the income tax department has launched a new facility for taxpayers allowing anyone with an Aadhaar card to get an instant PAN card online and that too for free. The instant e-PAN card application form needs you to input only your Aadhaar number after which an OTP is sent on your linked mobile phone number for completion of e-KYC process.

A Permanent Account Number (PAN) is issued instantly in just 10 minutes in PDF format to the applicant. Although the e-PAN card is as good as a physical copy, you can still get a laminated PAN card if you want by ordering a reprint for just ₹50.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced a new facility in Budget 2020 where individuals can get instant Permanent Account Number (PAN) through their Aadhaar without submitting a detailed application form. The facility was introduced to ease the PAN allotment process for individuals.

You can obtain the instant e-PAN for free in just 10 minutes in a soft copy format. If you doubt if the e-PAN will work for all purposes, here is the answer. Instant e-PAN is equivalent to the PAN card you get after filling the detailed application form.

PAN card is mandatory for several purposes like paying income tax, filing income tax returns (ITR), opening a bank account or Demat account, applying for a debit or credit card, etc. and you can use this e-PAN for all these purposes the same way as you do with the traditional PAN card.
