Ram Rahim's name is not farm

On the other hand, Tehsildar of Sirsa has reported in the report that the Dera has 250 acres of land in total. There is no Ram Rahim owner or tenant anywhere in this. The whole land is the name of the Dera Sacha Sauda Trust. For this reason, the basis of parole is not happening in the eyes of the administration.

In the case DC Ashok Kumar Garg says that the report is being prepared. Will soon be sent to the jail administration. SSP Dr Arun Nehra told that they will decide on the basis of merit. Administrative sources told Bhaskar that when Ram Rahim came out, there could be difficulty in maintaining law and order in Sirsa. It will also be difficult to monitor 24 hours. Therefore, the recommendation of giving a parole is not equal.

"The decision rests with the Divisional Commissioner and the report is awaited. We won't take any decision which will be against the interests of the state. Every inmate has a right to apply for parole and when and if the role of the government will be involved, we will see to it," he said.

He added that the decision on parole rests with the divisional commissioner.

Haryana minister KL Panwar said Gurmeet Ram Rahim was entitled to make a parole request, as were all convicts who have served a year of their sentence. The minister also claimed there were no politics involved in the timing of the request, pointing out that the state could have released Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh before last month's national election had it so chosen

Grounds of parole

Under the Haryana Good Conduct Prisoners (Temporary Release) Act, 1988, the state government can release a prisoner on parole or furlough in certain cases -

  • if a member of his family has died or is seriously ill
  • for marriage in immediate family or of a close relative
  • for construction of house
  • for agricultural activity
  • for any other sufficient cause if the state government is satisfied.
  • While death, medical emergency and marriage are common grounds in almost all states, Haryana has special provision for granting parole to a convict or an undertrial in custody for agricultural activities. It is on this ground that Ram Rahim has sought parole - to look after his fields in Sirsa district.
