Global Wind Day is a worldwide event that occurs annually on 15 June. It is organised by WindEurope (windeurope.org) and GWEC (Global Wind Energy Council).
It is a day when wind energy is celebrated, information is exchanged and adults and children find out about wind energy, its power and the possibilities it holds to change the world.

Global Wind Day is organised by WindEurope (windeurope.org) and Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC). Various events are organised in several countries on this day. Around the world, in more than 75 countries, wind farms are in operation and energy is generated from clean and renewable source.
People used to visit wind farms on this day, meet experts, attend events and take actions to support wind energy.
Thousands of individuals are involved in the production of energy from the wind, but for many people, wind energy is a mystery. Global Wind Day is the day when you can visit wind farms, meet experts, attend events and find out everything you want to know about wind energy.
In association with EWEA and GWEC, national wind energy associations and companies involved in wind energy production organise events in many countries around the world. In 2011, there were events organised in 30 countries, on 4 continents.
Events included visits to onshore and offshore wind farms, information campaigns, demonstration turbines being set up in cities, wind workshops and a wind parade.
Many events happened on Global Wind Day (15 June) itself, but there were also events on the days and weeks before and afterwards. In 2012 there were 250 events around the globe and a very popular photo competition.
In the run-up to Global Wind Day 2017, hundreds of public events will be held all over the world from family outings and wind farm visits to seminars with experts and leading industry figures.

In the run-up to 15 June, GWEC and WindEurope have also launched a Global Photo Competition ‘Capture the power of wind’.
“Wind power generates lots of clean energy, but it also generates some amazing images,” says Steve Sawyer, Secretary General of GWEC. “The powerful sweep and majesty of the turbines themselves, as well as the awesome panoramas from atop a nacelle, provides both inspiration and determination to fight for a clean energy future.”
