While food delivery platforms are offering upto Rs 40,000/Rs 50,000 per month, a significant jump from their earlier Rs 18,000 to Rs 20,000, other e-commerce sites are only offering in the range of Rs 16,000 to Rs 18,000 per month, including incentives.
A senior executive at one of the affected platforms told The Economic Times that what the food delivery apps are offering these executives is impacting everybody and delivery partners are switching to Swiggy, Zomato and the ilk because of the lucrative pay.
Such delivery boys now earn between ₹ 25,000 and ₹ 50,000 per month, depending on factors such as the number of deliveries completed and the distance they cover, according to interviews with more than a dozen delivery staff and executives.
It’s a sharp rise from the ₹ 10,000-25,000 the workers earned last year. Incomes of the blue-collar workers have risen by at least 25-30% on average compared with last year partly due to higher incentives.
Experts Divided Over Impact
While Swiggy has over 55,000 delivery executives – up from about 30,000 in January, Zomato’s fleet stands at over 50,000 from 1,800 in January. Over 60% of Zomato’s deliveries are fulfilled through its in-house fleet under Runnr.

Food delivery executives get paidon a per-order aswell ashourly basis. According tologisticscompanies and delivery executives, UberEats offers Rs 75-Rs 100 per hour as wages, while some on Zomato earn about Rs 4,500 per 60-hour week in cities like Mumbai. Orders delivered per executive have slipped to12-15 a day from 18-20 previously because the fleet size has increased.
Inevitably, the increase in salaries of food delivery executives draws comparisons with the ballooning earnings in the ride-hailing space during the heyday of 2014-2015,when drivers took home Rs 70,000 to Rs 100,000 a month.
