Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra Yojana: Delhi Government launches Free Pilgrimage Scheme for senior citizens

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on December 5, 2018 launched the 'Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra Yojana' which offers free travel packages for senior citizens from Delhi to five religious circuits. 



1,100 senior citizens from every constituency of Delhi will be able to avail this facility at one go.

The scheme, approved by the Cabinet in July, was launched by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at the Delhi Secretariat.

Kejriwal said: "Our mission is to give good education to the students of Delhi, our mission is to provide better health facilities and services to all and now our mission is to provide the best transport to the people.

"Our government respects elders and senior citizens. He said that no society or country can progress until and unless it gives respects to its senior citizens."

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Health Minister Satyendar Jain, Revenue and Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot, Environment Minister Imran Hussain, SC-ST Welfare Minister Rajendar Pal Gautam and Delhi Chief Secretary Vijay Dev were present at the launch event along with a number of MLAs.

Sisodia said that the "Yojana will help and promoting communal harmony and brotherhood in society".

Keys facts and figures 

• 1100 senior citizens from each Assembly Constituency would now undertake free pilgrimage every year, the expenses for which will be borne by the government. 

• A total of 77000 pilgrims will be able to avail this facility every year.

• On an average, the scheme will incur a cost of Rs 7000 per pilgrim. 

• The pilgrimage duration will be of 3 days and 2 nights.

Eligibility for the Scheme:

i) Any resident of Delhi above 60 years of age will be eligible for the scheme

ii) Those selected, will be allowed to be accompanied by an attendant above 18 years of age, whose expenditure will also be borne by the government.

iii) The applicant should not have an income of above Rs three lakh per annum.

iv) The applicant should not be an employee of Sentral/state/local government or autonomous bodies.

v) The applicant will have to give a self-certificate that all information being given by them is correct and they have not availed the scheme in the past.

vi) Those selected for pilgrimage will be covered with an insurance of Rs two lakh each.

vii) Travel will be in A/C buses through coach tours of DTTDC, boarding lodging and food along with pilgrimage will be paid for by the government.

Viii) The age of the attendant must be more than 21 years (In case opting for attendant)
