Kanwar Yatra
The Kanvar is an annual pilgrimage of devotees of Shiva, known as Kanvarias or "Bhole" , to Hindu pilgrimage places of Haridwar, Gaumukh and Gangotri in Uttarakhand and Sultanganj in Bihar to fetch holy waters of Ganges River.
Millions of participants gather sacred water from the Ganga and carry it across hundreds of miles to dispense as offerings in their local Śiva shrines, or specific temples such as Pura Mahadeva and Augharnath temple in Meerut, and Kashi Vishwanath, Baidyanath, and Deoghar in Jharkhand.

About Kanwar Yatra
In the Hindi Month of Shravan millions of Kanwarias, or the devotees of Lord Shiva, from almost all Indian states make a journey to Haridwar, Gangotri and Gomukh in Uttarakhand to collect ‘Ganga Jal’ or holy water from Ganges to bathe the Shivling at their homes and villages. The holy water they collect from River Ganga is used to bathe the Shivalingam on the Amavasi day in Shravan month or on the Mas Shivratri day.

This holy yatra was taken by the saints and holy sages in early days, which later got an addition of elderly people, who used to pilgrim every year, but now hundreds and thousands of people, from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, of young to old age, including woman and sometimes children, has started participating in Yatra, and kanwar mela.
On their way, the kanwariyas chant ‘BOL BAM, BAM BAM’, ‘BAM BAM BHOLE or HAR HAR MAHADEV’ together.
